Document Preparedness
September 21, 2009 – 9:52 pmIn the event of an emergency, do you have digital or physical copies of your critical documents?
Which documents do you need copies of? Birth certificates, passports, social security cards, drivers licenses, other legal documents, insurance documents, records of inventory for your physical assets, wills and other documents. Personally, I would include pictures and family history documents as well!
How do you save these electronically? I would scan them in and save as both jpg and pdf formats. Save them in a password protected file and burn it to a CDROM and store in a few locations. Discs are cheap and pretty stable. Heck – it may be worth it to get a service like Carbonite to store your electronic documents.
The key here is to backup your records in a manner which is secure!
