Food Storage

August 31, 2008 – 6:11 pm

Evening All!

Have you thought about your food storage and what to do if you had to bug out??  Would you take 10 minutes and load it up or would you just give up the ghost and take off with maybe a few supplies.  Is your bug out bag ready to go or would you need to grab it.

These are things I was talking with a friend with at church today during our Sunday School lesson.  I remember a friend who lives in San Francisco who could not get to there house after the quake.  She was concerned about her food storage getting trashed.  She had food in bags, cans and jars.  Would it survive in the event of a fire hose stream?

Here is my thought (for what it is worth.)  We keep our food storage in the house near the garage so it is temperature controlled.  With our wheeled dolly, we can move it to the trailer within minutes.  Hauling the drums of water onto the trailer is another story!  We then can haul it with us to our bug out spot.  That way with our gear we would load with the food, we can last for months.  I do have a source of water at the safe spot as well.

On another point – looks like the Gulf Coast States are evacuating – thank goodness!  Have you donated to the Red Cross or other similar Non-Profit?  I will post later some other charities who can use your donations.

Keep it safe and keep your best thoughts/prayers with those who have or will be affected by Gustav!
