The Run on Ammo
October 7, 2009 – 6:04 pmWell, ammunition has been a pain to get as of late!
I went to Sportsmans Warehouse, Dicks and Walmart and found some, but not much. I shoot a .308 Winchester and just about choked on the $18+/box price tag. Gotta love them dems! Wonder how many own stock in the ammo manufacturers and are pushing the hype. Bunch of friggin Hypocrites.
So, the thing to do is to go out and start handloading. A few of the local ammo shops have empty cases by the pound. Take them bad boys, place some Nozzler boat tail partitions in them with 144 grains of powder and I have me a nice, accurate round.
I tested this round many years ago and vaporized a dove at 200 yards (and subsequently won $20 from that one shot!)
For those who have never tested your ammo, it is one of the best ways to dial in your ammo to your specific gun. When I shot the same round through a friends gun, the accuracy was not nearly as good.
The upside is that I have total control over the ammo each and every time I make it. Plus, it is a nice thing to do mid-summer in Arizona during the extremely hot weekends. And, the kids get to help too!
It is well worth the initial expense to set up a reloading station – I am getting ready to do so for my rifle and shotgun.
